Making A Million From Sports Betting Challenge Update – April 2026

April marked month 109 in the Making a Million Betting challenge and its fair to say its been a bit of a slow start.

In the first three months of the year a profit of just over £1k had been made, did April improve?

Let’s take a look!

Value Betting Results

Value betting has been the main strategy that I have used now for a number of year, due to it’s simplicity and profitability. The strategy has been well covered both on this blog and my Youtube channel. It encompasses a few different ways to find value bets. The aim is simply to back odds that are higher then they should be, consistently enough to make a long term profit.

The results for value betting in April were very positive

Profit/Loss: +£3018

(Adjusting stakes to win £100-£150 per bet).

I record profit/loss daily by each individual bookmaker or exchange.

Here are the strategies used:

  • Each Way Value – using Oddsmonkey and Betting Mastermind – On any soft accounts that still let me bet.
  • Inflated Odds on the exchanges – reading the markets for different reasons that odds may have been pushed higher then they should be.
  • Shop bets – On the rare occasion I use shops to get bets down. Usually this for golf selections, Tilt the Odds now cover golf which may lead to more bets in this area.
  • Bet HeroThis is value betting software that is especially useful for prop bets. Uncovers a lot of value in smaller bookmakers I haven’t used previously (casumo group etc). Can also be used on the betting exchanges with some added analysis.

Horse Racing Betfair Strategy Results

This strategy had been struggling to do better then break even for a long period but finally showed some profit in April. Removing the BSP part of the system has paid off at least initially.

The system follows odds movement in the morning, trying to identify steamers. Stakes remain at £10 and sometimes don’t get fully matched, which means it isn’t that scalable unless I also use soft accounts.

Momentum

After a slow start to the year, it has been encouraging to finally see the hard work begin to pay off and the results gather momentum. Betting can often feel like a game of repetition, mechanical, routine, and sometimes monotonous — but when the profits start to build, it reminds you why the time and effort are worth it. In terms of strategies, I am still focusing largely on the same approaches I was using a few years ago, albeit with a few tweaks and refinements along the way.

One interesting development has been Tilt The Odds adding golf alongside horse racing, which has prompted me to start using the software again. Golf has long been an area where many professional bettors seem to perform exceptionally well. I have dabbled in it over the years, although my work shifts have often made it difficult to consistently get bets down each week. As I write this, Kristoffer Reitan is currently sitting 2nd going into the final day of the PGA Truist Championship, so hopefully that can provide a nice boost to get things started.

When it comes to new tipsters or software, I am always keeping an eye out for anything that looks genuinely valuable. I have heard some good things about Andy Holden’s horse racing tips, which may be a review in the future. If anybody has used his tips, I’d be interested in hearing your opinion.

As I mentioned last month, the single biggest improvement I could probably make to my betting operation is sourcing more accounts. The strategies themselves continue to perform well, so increasing both stake size and betting volume would likely have the biggest overall impact.

As always, I appreciate you taking the time to read the updates. Hopefully your own betting has been profitable too, and I’ll be back next month with another update.
