The new NFL season is about to begin on September 10, taking us through to January and the Playoffs. All told, there will be about 300 games to bet on over the coming weeks, with billions wagered across the regular season and playoffs.
Plenty of fans will be honing their fantasy football strategies and NFL season bets across the coming days and weeks, but we can provide a quick overview, providing the betting pulse as we head into the campaign. All odds are correct at the time of writing and have been sourced here.
The Preseason Market Leader
As we head into 2026, there’s one team ahead of everyone else in the odds – The LA Rams. Sean McVay’s team was good last season, but they’ve made a splash in the offseason, adding Myles Garrett and others. Odds of 11/2 (+550) are generally available, with everyone else in the league 10/1 and above. It’s a big statement from NFL sportsbooks.
The Contenders
There’s a group of teams behind the Rams that could easily be in the championship game next February, but for whom questions remain. You’ve basically got the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens and reigning champions, Seattle Seahawks, in the second tier, all priced around 10/1 – 12/1. Any of those three could look like good value come January.

The Near Contenders
This is the toughest list to call, because you get the feeling things could go either way. The Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos are all priced between 16/1 and 20/1.
Value Picks
This is where it gets highly speculative, but a team like the Dallas Cowboys would do well and may offer value to go deep into the postseason, even if a Super Bowl win looks slightly out of reach in February. Also, depending on how you perceive value, the 16/1 for the Kansas City Chiefs – a team that made five out of six Super Bowls before last season – looks generous if we get the 2024 version and not the 2025 one. A lot will depend on the return to fitness of Patrick Mahomes.
Win Totals
The over/under season win totals bet is a huge fan-friendly market to get on preseason. Arguably, you will want to pair it up with your strategy with the strength of schedule metric (the perceived difficulty of the team’s fixtures based on last season’s records), throwing up teams like the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals, who are judged to have the easiest slate overall. Be wary, too, of teams in tough divisions. The 49ers, for instance, are an excellent team and may well make the playoffs, but they will have to face both the Super Bowl champions Seahawks and Super Bowl favorites Rams twice in the NFC West.
MVP
The season MVP market is always weighted toward quarterbacks, so you have Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson. The standout value might be reigning MVP Matthew Stafford at 14/1. If you believe the Rams will dominate, why not back their gunslinger to get the MVP accolade again?
One Prediction
It’s not always easy to make NFL predictions without ending up looking foolish. Last season, many great teams flopped, and underdogs like the Patriots and Seahawks made the Super Bowl. But if pushed, we would say that the Ravens’ odds – second-favorites for the Super Bowl with some sportsbooks – look much too short for a team in transition. They’ve just replaced long-time head coach John Harbaugh with the largely untested Jesse Minter. It may take a while for Minter to find his feet.
