Making A Million From Sports Betting And Trading – March and April Results

Making a million from sports betting and trading?

If I told any of my friends or family members that this was something that I thought I could realistically achieve. I am pretty sure they would think I was an idiot.

I mean the majority of people think “The bookie always wins in the long run right?”

So did March and April’s results bring me any closer to that one million pound profit target or is it all a pipe dream?

Sports Betting and Trading Challenge

Matched Betting – Sports Offers, Arbitrage, Value Betting

Alright as usual I will start with results from the low risk tried and trusted methods.

In March and April I took part in 444 matched betting offers, arbitrage and value bets. This number was a lot lower then Jan/Feb as I spent three weeks in Thailand throughout April which I will write about later.

Matched Betting Results

After two months a profit of £2244 was made.

The majority of this profit came from value betting and matched betting.

I did very little arbitrage betting over March and April finding only one really good opportunity using local shops.

Advantage Play – Casino Offers

It has been a while since I have had a really good casino win. I remember when I first started taking advantage of casino offers I had two very big wins in quick succession and thought that things would just continue.

However that didn’t happen and as time has gone on I have got used to long losing runs with big wins coming pretty infrequently.

In April however I got back to the casino grind after my trip to Thailand and almost instantly hit a decent win from a free spins offer. The EV of the offer was around £5 but after wagering was done a profit of £760 was made.

Casino Win

In the past I have quite a few emails about casino offers. If you trust in the EV and get in a big enough sample size you will make money. Much like sports betting its a long term investment.Advantage Play Results

In April and May I took part in 273 offers.

A total profit of £1853 was made.

Trading Results

In terms of trading it is still low volume. But given its the period near the end of the season you get some pretty big moves. Some teams have a big motivation to win whilst others don’t, teams rest players or give youngsters a chance. If you do your research there are often good opportunities to be found.

Over March and April I took part in 17 trades.

A total profit of £526 was made.

Sports Betting Results

March was a really solid month for my sports betting selections.

A total profit of £1645 was made.

Sports Betting Results

At the moment I am betting mostly my own MMA and in-play football.

I still like the idea of increasing my volume of bets with tipsters. But from past experience adding tipsters to the mix seems to upset my family/work balance.

Some run good in March

April was a quiet month for betting due to spending time in Thailand.

However a small profit of £222 was made.

Betting Full Time/Thailand Trip

So in April me and my family returned to Thailand.

In my early twenties after finishing university I went to teach English in Thailand and play online poker for a living. It was their that I met my wife and also where my children were born.

Thailand is a beautiful country and I have found in general Thai people to be incredibly warm and nice people.

Thailand Trip
Here’s me standing on a bridge trying to look cool

My wife is from a city called Udon Thani and we spent the majority of the hoilday at her parents house in a small village outside the main city.

It was the first time in my adult life that I remember not having access to the internet for a long period. I have to admit it felt really strange not being able to check twitter or go on flashscores and check football results.

Not doing any betting or trading also felt strange as I spend so much time doing it. This left quite a lot of time to do other things.

To fill that void I did a lot of reading and played board games with my kids.

One of the best books I read was “American Kingpin.” It was based on the American governments attempt and eventual capture of the creator of the site the Silk Road. The Silk Road was a Tor based website that was basically a free market. Drugs, guns, poisons, hacking tools etc were sold on this website. It was estimated to be turning over hundreds of millions by the time was eventually closed.

Sports Betting Full Time

I had a lot of time to think in Thailand.

What was my long term goal?

So I have this £1,000,000 target but what I am doing to actually increase my chances of getting hitting it.

At the moment I am pretty content with my results. My profits from sports betting have grown and that is really where I am hopeful of scaling profits up.

Alongside my full time job I making a really good annual income. But I don’t feel like I am really pushing myself that much anymore. I have found what works, scaled it up and now I seem to really just be going through the motions.

Working as a full time sports bettor or sports trader sounds awesome right?

This is what a lot of people that get into sports betting aspire to be.

Having done this full time in the past though I know that mentally it can be pretty tough.

Those losing runs aren’t just little dips in your bankroll anymore, they are this months mortgage payment. Shit what happens if I have a losing month next month? What happens if all the casino offers dry up?

Being Patient

Whilst I still like the idea of doing this full time. I really think that I would need a bankroll of at least £100k to feel somewhat secure. Along with scaling my trading and betting profits up to something that would constitute a good annual wage. If results do continue in the way they have the last year then that £100k should be a matter of just being patient.

Cue the disastrous downswing!

Its funny how your attitude to risk and the loss of money changes if you bet for long enough. I remember betting around half of my entire bankroll on Shane Carwin to beat Brock Lesnar 9 years ago. Jumping up and down in the first round as Carwin put on a one sided beating on Lesnar.

Counting the winnings in my head and making plans for how I was going to spend it. Then the second round came, Carwin’s body had gone into shock due the energy he expended in the first round and Lesnar easily took him to the ground and submitted him.

Today my betting and trading is pretty much no more then data entry. My emotional attachment to the money won and lost is almost nothing. Which is probably what you should aim for if you want to bet professionally, bet like a robot.

But sometimes I do miss having that excitement which I had early on in my betting career.

I speak to people on a day to day basis that want to bet and trade professionally but I think the worst thing that you can do is rush it. It pays off to be patient.

How was your March and April?

Are you betting full time or have plans to?

Would love to hear from you in the comments.
